My brother in-law and I are heading to Lancaster PA this coming week and would love to take our daughters (8, and 10) to a shooting range and give them a first time shooting experience. Now I live in NYC, so I assuming I can not take my .22 S&W out of the city... but my Brother inlaw who lives in Nassau can... Any confirmation on this.
17 posts · Joined 2015. #6 · Jul 26, 2016. Granby Bow and Gun Club just announced PRS last week, they just built a 1,000 + yard range. It's Massachusetts but it's not far. You have to join but it's only $50 a year until Sept, then $75. After Jan 1 it will be $100 per year or $150 for the family.
Aside from NYC, Westchester is probably the next worst place for finding a place to shoot in the state. However, you still have a few options. The best one in my opinion is going to any one of the numerous ranges in Northeastern PA that are open to the public (used to be free but now requires a $30 annual pass).
Greenway is also accepting members. We have 100 yard outdoor, 50 foot indoor 4 lane pistol, and an archery tower. Dues are only $40 a year with an additional $40 application fee the first time. We have a meeting Wed. night at 7:30PM, if you are free come over and introduce yourself.
If anyone wants a square 1000 yard range with target pits look up Alliance rifle club located in Melvern Ohio near Canton worth the drive the firing line and the range look like the 18th hole at Augusta, just beautiful. They run mid range (600 yards) and long range (1000 yards) simultaneously off the same firing line into two target pits.

Thanks to the heads-up from BM20, I called Davis. The person there said they are open to the public, normally Tuesday-Sunday 10AM-6:30PM. During July, however, due to prior reservations, the range is open to the public only from 4-6:30PM. They require ear and eye protection. Davis Shooting Sports. 1230 Pulaski Hwy.
He gave me my membership card and key card for the range the same day. I have since got my handgun CC permit. I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon again and asked if I could add handguns to my membership card and the same officer certified me on handguns and changed my card same day. Was very happy with how easy the whole process was.
Laws do vary by Town and County, make sure your town permits the discharge of firearms, some don't. The 500' rule does not apply to your own dwelling, it applies to neighbors, businesses, any building that is not your own. If you know for a FACT that there is no one home at the house within 500', you are good to shoot.
