  2. A question about a McDonald's sandwich... - Factual Questions ...

    boards.straightdope.com/t/a-question-about-a-mcdonalds-sandwich/116803

Here in Cleveland the local McDonald’s are featuring a sandwich called a “Thome Triple” [or “Triple Thome”] a none too subtle reference to Jim Thome who plays baseball for the Cleveland Indians. The advertising is complete with the baseball team’s logo. The sandwich itself is in the shape of a 6-8 inch sub, and is compried of 3 small beef patties, stretched end-to-end and barely ...

  3. P.F. Chang's/MSG Question - Factual Questions - Straight Dope

    boards.straightdope.com/t/p-f-changs-msg-question/362096

Straightforward enough: does anyone know whether or not P.F. Chang’s uses MSG in their food preparation? The last three times we’ve had lunch there, my wife has been feeling unwell by bedtime; we just noticed the pattern last night, when she got violently ill & then felt better almost immediately afterwards. We both ate from the same dishes but I didn’t get sick, so I guess that rules ...

  4. Cracker Jack: Offensive? Racist? - Straight Dope

    boards.straightdope.com/t/cracker-jack-offensive-racist/153781

Most people have heard of Cracker Jack®. It’s sort of like caramel corn, it comes in a box with a prize, and it was immortalized in “Take me out to the Ballgame”. But why does it have that name? The food is vaguely cracker-like, sharing more similarities with crackers than Grape Nuts® shares with either grapes or nuts. Apparently, crackerjack was a late 19th century slang expression ...

    boards.straightdope.com/t/travel-road-food-for-car-trip-2024-edition/1007173

My wife and I just made a 2000 mile road trip last weekend. We packed a cooler with some cans of pop, cheese sticks, apple slices, and veggies (baby carrots and cut up broccoli and cauliflower). I also bought a box of Kind bars for the trip but left them in the pantry at home.

  6. Restaurants with mini jukeboxes at each table - Straight Dope

    boards.straightdope.com/t/restaurants-with-mini-jukeboxes-at-each-table/1006926

A central juke box makes logical sense. That would mean, however, you might be waiting a very long time to hear your selection. The modern version of this is an app-controlled juke box, with lots of songs in digital format. And yeah, if there’s a lot of people in the place, sometimes your song is way down the queue.

  7. Sent a Steak Back to Kitchen and Got Same Steak in Return

    boards.straightdope.com/t/sent-a-steak-back-to-kitchen-and-got-same-steak-in...

OP: Most restaurants are barely profitable as it is and steaks are expensive. (I recall going over a P&L sheet once when I was at Jack in the Box and discovering that our location’s net profit for the month was $6.) I see no reason to throw out a perfectly good cut of beef that was a little pinker than you’d have liked.

  10. Misplaced or not, that’s awesome. I just re-rented Shakes last weekend. It never fails to crack me up. “You just hate us 'cause we’re artists.”

  11. Changing VCR input from co-ax to RCA without the remote

    boards.straightdope.com/t/changing-vcr-input-from-co-ax-to-rca-without-the...

If I want to record something (e.g., off the air via my DTV down-converter box), I have to connect the DTV unit to the VCR with a co-ax cable. I would prefer to connect with RCA cables, but from what I read in the owner’s manual*, the default signal input is co-ax. To change the input to RCA, one has to use the remote to access the menu.
