This is a list of notable districts and neighborhoods within the city of Los Angeles in the U.S. state of California, present and past.It includes residential and commercial industrial areas, historic preservation zones, and business-improvement districts, but does not include sales subdivisions, tract names, homeowners associations, and informal names for areas.
Mapping L.A. Mapping L.A. is a project of the Los Angeles Times, beginning in 2009, to draw boundary lines for 158 cities and unincorporated places within Los Angeles County, California. It identified 114 neighborhoods within the City of Los Angeles and 42 unincorporated areas where the statistics were merged with those of adjacent cities.
Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) is the central business district of Los Angeles.It is part of the Central Los Angeles region and covers a 5.84 sq mi (15.1 km 2) [3] area. As of 2020, it contains over 500,000 jobs and has a population of roughly 85,000 residents, [4] with an estimated daytime population of over 200,000 people prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. [5]
Los Angeles's 6th City Council district is one of the fifteen districts in the Los Angeles City Council. It is currently represented by Imelda Padilla . The district was created in 1925 after a new city charter was passed, which replaced the former " at large" voting system for a nine-member council with a district system with a 15-member council.
The Mapping L.A. project of the Los Angeles Times states as follows: The neighborhood's irregular street boundaries follow the Los Angeles city limits on the north and east, except for a small patch of Los Angeles County territory surrounding Ritter Elementary School, between 108th Street and Imperial Highway, which the Times includes in Watts ...
[3] [4] Using these boundaries, Cheviot Hills is flanked on the north by West Los Angeles and Century City, on the east by Beverlywood and Castle Heights, on the south by Palms, and on the west by Rancho Park. [5] The Mapping L.A. boundaries are broader than those recognized by the Cheviot Hills Homeowners' Association (CHHOA).
The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation has posted Mid City signage [1] to mark the area. City installed signs are at the following intersections (from east to west): Hoover Street and Washington Boulevard, Vermont Avenue and Pico Boulevard, Western Avenue and Pico Boulevard, Normandie Avenue and the Santa Monica Freeway, and La Brea Avenue and the Santa Monica Freeway.
