Took our wild little boys to the Steele County Fair today and had a great time. In our household our fair priorities, in no particular order, are: 1. Rides 2. Food 3. Farm animals. And in my opinion the Steele County Fair takes care of those priorities without some of the hassles of the State Fair. As others have said, to each their own, just ...

We are in for a soaker today. Everyone within shouting distance of 94 is going to get wet today and it just keeps developing and going over the same area . Yep, its a term they use calling “training.” They just keep going over the same area over and over like a train on the tracks. There is a flash flood watch in places already.

I am no expert but I know more today than several days ago. It looks like land was ceded from Red Lake Indian Reservation in 1889 and again in 1904. The eastern boundary which would include the complete section of Upper was in 1904.

I think I definitely got lucky, there was only one other smaller fish on the stretch of 5-6 docks that I fished. Bite was really tough today overall – bass weren’t on the flats like last week and once the sun got to about 9:00 am it really shut down. Next few days of heat I think its bite early and go home..

Speeds have been climbing slowly but steadily as the water warms. Our best speeds in recent days have been in the 2.5 to 2.7 range with fish caught up to 3.2. Equally important has been a shift in fish locations. We are catching more than half of our fish well off structure or shorelines….this is the beginning of the Wissota open water bite!

Doesn’t seem that long ago, but yeah it was the early 90’s probably when they all closed and changed to Gander Mtns. I worked behind the lunch counter for a few years in the early 90’s. I made the best ham/egg/cheese muffins per the checkout ladies!
